Overview

CarManager ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use our vehicle management application.

Data Separation: User Data vs. Analytics

Information We Collect

1. User‑Provided Data

To provide our vehicle management services, we collect and store the information that you enter:

• Vehicle Information: Make, model, year, fuel type, odometer readings, purchase price, and other vehicle details
• Fuel Records: Fuel purchase dates, gallons, prices, odometer readings, and MPG calculations
• Maintenance Records: Service dates, descriptions, costs, odometer readings, and maintenance schedules
• Expense Tracking: Vehicle‑related expenses, categories, amounts, and dates
• Insurance Information: Policy details, renewal dates, and provider information
• Documents: Photos, receipts, and other files you attach to records
• Calendar Events: Maintenance reminders and expense tracking events (if you enable calendar integration)

This data is not transmitted off your device, except in two opt‑in cases: (a) when you enable iCloud sync, it is transmitted to and stored in your personal iCloud account to sync across your devices; and (b) when you enable Family Sharing in the app, CarManager creates CloudKit shares for selected data types so that invited family members (using iCloud accounts you explicitly authorize and who accept the share) can access the shared data. In all cases, we do not receive or host your user‑entered content.

2. Automatically Collected Data (Anonymous)

• Usage Analytics: Anonymous, aggregated information about which app features are used and how often
• Performance Data: App performance metrics to identify and fix issues
• Build Information: App version and build type (debug, testflight, or release) for analytics filtering

Analytics events intentionally exclude user‑entered content and personally identifying information. We do not collect IDFA for advertising, precise location, or contact lists.

Anonymous analytics may include device and app metadata such as device model, platform, OS version, app version/build, language/locale, screen resolution, and event timestamps. Firebase derives an approximate region from the IP address at ingestion and discards the IP. We do not send user‑entered content, advertising identifiers, precise GPS location, or personal identifiers.

3. Device and System Information

• Platform: iOS or macOS version for compatibility and optimization
• App Settings: Your preferences for units, notifications, and app behavior

How We Use Your Information

Primary App Functionality

Your data is used exclusively to provide the core features of CarManager:

• Vehicle management and tracking
• Fuel economy calculations and analysis
• Maintenance scheduling and history
• Expense tracking and budgeting
• Insurance policy management
• Document organization and storage
• Calendar integration and reminders

All core features are provided on‑device. Your data is processed locally by the app. iCloud sync is optional and, if enabled, uses your personal Apple iCloud account; we do not operate servers that store or receive your user‑entered data.

Analytics and Improvement

Anonymous analytics helps us understand feature usage and performance to prioritize future development. This data is never combined with your user‑entered data (which we do not have access to).

What We Never Do

• ❌ Collect, receive, or host your user‑entered data on our servers
• ❌ Transfer your user‑entered data to third‑party servers (iCloud sync is optional and tied to your Apple account)
• ❌ Sell your personal data
• ❌ Share your data with third parties for advertising
• ❌ Use your data for marketing purposes
• ❌ Collect user‑entered content in analytics

Data Storage and Security

Local Storage

Your data is primarily stored locally on your device using Apple's Core Data framework, ensuring:

• Data remains under your control
• No internet connection required for basic functionality
• Fast access to your information

iCloud Sync (Optional)

If you enable iCloud, your data may be:

• Backed up to your personal iCloud account
• Synced across your Apple devices
• Protected by Apple's iCloud security measures
• Family Sharing (Optional): If you enable Family Sharing within the app, CarManager creates CloudKit shares for selected data. Family members must be explicitly added or accept the share with their iCloud account to access shared data. Shared data syncs only to devices signed into accounts that have accepted the share. You can stop sharing at any time.

Note: iCloud sync and any Family Sharing are controlled entirely by your device settings and your choices within the app. We do not receive or host this data.

Calendar Data

If you choose to create reminders or events, CarManager creates entries in your calendars on your device. These entries may sync via your Apple account if you enable calendar syncing. On supported iOS versions (iOS 17+), the app prefers write‑only calendar access, which lets it create/update its own entries without reading your existing calendar content. We do not collect, receive, or transmit your calendar contents to our servers.

Third‑Party Services

Firebase (Google)

We use Firebase services for:

• Analytics: Anonymous usage statistics (Firebase Analytics)
• Performance: App performance monitoring (Firebase Performance)

Firebase data collection is anonymous and does not include your personal vehicle or financial information. Learn more: firebase.google.com/support/privacy.

Apple Services

• CloudKit: iCloud data sync (if enabled)
• EventKit: Calendar integration (if enabled)
• Core Data: Local data storage

Your Rights and Choices

Data Control

• You can add, edit, or delete your data at any time within the app
• You can export your data for backup or transfer
• You can disable iCloud sync in your device settings
• You can delete the app to remove all local data

Analytics

Analytics are anonymous by design and are not linked to your user‑entered data. They are used strictly to guide future development and improve performance.

Data Retention

Your data is retained as long as:

• You continue to use the app
• You don't manually delete it
• You don't uninstall the app

If you delete the app, all local data is removed. If you have iCloud sync enabled, you may need to delete data from your iCloud account separately.

Children's Privacy

CarManager is not intended for use by children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. We also don’t expect many children under 13 to have vehicles to track—and in any case, we don’t want their information (or yours!). If a child under 13 has entered personal information into the app, that information—like your own—resides solely on your device(s) and, if you enabled it, within your personal iCloud account. We do not receive or host this data.

International Users

CarManager is developed and operated in the United States. Your user‑entered data is kept on your device and, if you enable iCloud, within Apple’s iCloud infrastructure associated with your Apple ID. We do not operate our own servers that store or receive your user‑entered data.

Anonymous, aggregated analytics and performance telemetry may be processed by Google Firebase infrastructure, which may operate in the United States and/or other regions. We do not send user‑entered content to Firebase.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by:

• Posting the new Privacy Policy on this page
• Updating the "Effective Date" at the top of this policy
• Providing notice within the app for significant changes

If you are located in the European Union, our legal basis for processing your personal data is:

• Contract Performance: To provide the vehicle management services you request
• Legitimate Interest: To improve app functionality and user experience
• Consent: For optional features like calendar integration
